Curriculum

Five modules. A complete, modular newsletter production skill set.

Each module focuses on one production skill and ends with a practice exercise or checklist deliverable. Complete them in order for the clearest learning path.

By the end of this masterclass, you will be able to:

  • Plan useful newsletter themes and schedules
  • Draft and assemble readable email content
  • Apply consent, sender-identity, and unsubscribe checks
  • Test links, rendering, and handoff reports
  • Package the workflow as a recurring client service
Module 1

Newsletter Strategy and Briefs

  • Understand what makes a newsletter useful and readable for subscribers
  • Plan issue themes and content schedules that serve the audience
  • Write a one-page brief a client can review and approve before you begin
  • Identify recurring sections (e.g. intro, main story, resources, CTA) and their purpose

AI tools are introduced here to help you research topic angles and draft brief outlines quickly. You learn when to trust the output and when to push back.

Module 2

Writing and Layout

  • Draft clear, concise newsletter copy across all major sections
  • Apply heading, subheading, and bullet structure for readability
  • Use AI writing assistants to speed up drafting and improve sentence quality
  • Assemble a complete issue inside a standard email template

Practical exercises have you draft a full newsletter issue using AI-assisted techniques. You review and edit the output yourself — the AI drafts, you direct.

Module 3

Consent and List Hygiene

  • Apply sender-identity, from-name, and reply-to requirements
  • Verify that every list segment was built with valid, explicit permission
  • Check that a working unsubscribe mechanism is present in every issue
  • Understand why purchased, scraped, or improperly shared lists are excluded from this service

This module is the quality and ethics backbone of the curriculum. You will not skip it — and neither will your clients once they understand why it matters.

Module 4

Testing and Sending Checklists

  • Test all links, preview text, subject lines, and rendering across common clients
  • Run a pre-send checklist before every issue leaves your drafts folder
  • Prepare a handoff report that documents your QA work for the client
  • Understand what to do when a test reveals a problem

You will build and keep a personal checklist that covers every item reviewed in this module — this becomes one of your most-used professional documents.

Module 5

Reporting and Recurring Production Scopes

  • Read and summarize basic performance data (opens, clicks) for a client
  • Document your production process in a scope-of-work template
  • Package your workflow as a recurring monthly or weekly service
  • Price and describe your service in plain terms a client can evaluate

The final module bridges the skill and the business. By the end you will have a concrete scope document and the language to start a conversation with a prospective newsletter client.
